Responsiveness Summary
Today the County submitted a Responsiveness Summary to the
WA Department of Ecology, as a required step in the formal review process.
The document and a transmittal memo are posted online at the Locally
Approved SMP webpage. A public review copy is also available at the
DCD Front Office.
Ecology received over 300 public comment letters/testimonies
during the state-wide comment period (also posted online).
The Responsiveness Summary groups individual comment summaries into topics,
identifies issues of public interest and responds generally to those
issues. Ecology has confirmed there are no state requirements or guidelines
for the content or format of such a response document. The County is also
working to revise the FAQ
Handout to provide answers to additional questions submitted as public
comment.
Next Steps
Ecology will review the Responsiveness Summary as they
prepare their Findings and Conclusions and make a decision on the LA-SMP,
anticipated by mid-January 2011. Any required or suggested changes must
be agreed upon by Ecology and the County prior to state adoption. Finally,
the County must adopt the SMP by ordinance to amend the Jefferson County Comprehensive
Plan (goals & policies) and the Unified Development Code (regulations).

continues towards final adoption.
